Summary of Common Materials for Laser Cutting

Summary of Common Materials for Laser Cutting

Iron material summary

• SS material SPHC (SS400 is the mainstream): a hot-rolled steel plate that is prone to rust and therefore requires surface treatment protection.

• Pickled steel (PO): Hot rolled steel sheet without oxide film.

• Polished material (SPCC): Cold rolled steel sheet made by cold rolling hot rolled steel sheet.

• Electrogalvanized steel sheet (SECC): Cold rolled steel sheet with an average coating thickness of approximately 2 to 25 µm.

• Galvanized steel sheet (SGCC): Hot-dip galvanized cold-rolled steel sheet, with an average coating thickness of about 50-100 µm.

• SK5/SK7 material steel plate: polished steel strip, suitable for blades, springs and fine parts.

• Stainless steel plate: with excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, including a variety of models:

• SUS304: Good corrosion resistance and heat resistance, suitable for household items and medical equipment, etc.

• SUS316: Excellent corrosion resistance and high temperature strength, suitable for seawater equipment and chemical industry.

• SUS316L: Better corrosion resistance than SUS316 and suitable for welding.

• SUS410: High strength but poor corrosion resistance, suitable for tools and valves.

• SUS420: Good wear resistance, suitable for processing tools and nozzles.

• SUS430: Good formability and oxidation resistance, suitable for home appliances.

• SUS301: High strength after cold working, suitable for environments with high strength requirements.

Stainless steel surface treatment:

• NO.1 (original surface): The surface is bright after hot rolling.

• 2B (matte): The surface is smooth after cold rolling.

• HL (Hairy): It has a hair-like texture after continuous grinding.

• BA (Bright Surface): The surface is smooth after cold rolling.

Tinplate: Cold-rolled steel sheet coated with tin on both sides, used for metal packaging.

Aluminum Material Summary

• AL1050:Pure aluminum, low strength, excellent formability and corrosion resistance, suitable for reflectors, lighting fixtures, decorations, etc.

• AL5052:Medium strength, good corrosion resistance and formability, suitable for ships, vehicles, construction materials, etc.

• AL6061:It has excellent corrosion resistance and is used for rivet structural materials, suitable for ships, vehicles and land structures.

Copper Material Summary

• Brass C2680: Copper-zinc alloy with good ductility, suitable for artistic decorations, bathroom fixtures, terminals, etc.

• Red Copper C1100: Oxygen-free copper, good thermal and electrical conductivity, suitable for solar welding ribbons, CPU cooling modules, etc.

• Phosphor bronze C5191: Copper-tin-phosphorus alloy with good fatigue resistance, suitable for connectors, terminal materials, etc.

• Beryllium Copper C1720: A high performance specialty alloy suitable for a variety of industrial applications.

• Nickel white copper C7521: Copper-nickel alloy with high strength and good corrosion resistance, suitable for tokens, mobile phone materials, etc.

Common materials and uses for housings

• SECC:Suitable for indoor mechanical parts, building materials, etc.

• SGCC (Galvanized Steel): Suitable for outdoor vending machines, air conditioners, etc.

• SPHC-PO (Hot Rolled Steel - Pickled Material): Suitable for housings of electrical equipment and automotive parts.

• SPCC (polishing material): suitable for thin steel covers, home appliance covers, etc.

• AL5052 (aluminum alloy): suitable for lightweight and high-strength equipment, such as communication equipment.

• SUS304-SUS316 (stainless steel): suitable for clean room equipment tools or medical and food equipment.

Sheet metal casing processing types

• Laser cutting: Cutting sheets using lasers.

• Punching process: Use a die to punch the sheet.

• Rivets: Use rivets to fasten or join workpieces

• Tapping and threading: making threads on metal sheets.

• Countersinking: Enlarging and beveling the edges of a hole.

• Stamping: Cutting, bending or molding into finished shape and size.

• Bending machine forming: bending metal sheets using upper and lower dies.

• Rounding: Rolling metal materials into a cylinder.

• Welding: Joining work pieces using heat.

• Surface grinding of welds: Use a grinder to trim the weld bead.

• Surface treatment: Powder coating, electroplating and other treatments are carried out to prevent rust and decorate the appearance.
